Turkish New Welfare Party leader: Assad had won the war and won the elections
The leader of the Turkish Islamist New Welfare Party, Fatih Erbakan, renewed his call to return Syrians to their country, saying, “Assad won the war and won the elections”.
Erbakan said, “Türkiye, the government and the people, have done what was incumbent upon them regarding the issue of Syrian refugees in Türkiye”.
He added, “We spent tens of billions of dollars on the Syrians, and now it’s better for them and for us to return”.
He continued, “We must meet with Assad in order to secure their lives… Assad won the war and regained 85% of the territory, and held elections and won them regardless of their fairness”.
Erbakan pointed out that given the economic conditions in Türkiye, it would be difficult to sustain hosting Syrians for another ten years.
