The Wall Street Journal reported that US President Donald Trump has expressed his willingness to end military operations against Iran, even if the Strait of Hormuz continues to be closed, with its reopening postponed to a later stage.

The WSJ quoted US administration officials as saying that opening the strait could take a long time and possibly prolong the confrontation for additional weeks, while Washington is currently focusing on reducing Iran’s naval and missile capabilities.

The sources also indicated that there are other military options under consideration, but they aren’t a priority at the current stage.

At the same time, Trump has stepped up his rhetoric, threatening to target Kharg Island, one of Iran’s most important oil export hubs, if a quick agreement is not reached or the strait is reopened.

In remarks posted on Truth Social, Trump noted that there are serious talks with Iranian parties, considering that significant progress has been made, but warned of a broad escalation if these efforts fail.
