Former British military members, including retired generals and senior officers, have called on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to cut military ties with Israel.

According to The Times newspaper, the former officers stated in a letter to Starmer that although a fragile ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is in effect, “the time isn’t right to return to normal working relations with the Israeli government”.

The letter, which called for the severing of military ties with Israel, called for a complete ban on arms exports to Israel, the suspension of all cooperation with defense companies linked to Israel, and the expansion of sanctions.

It asserted that the Israeli army’s indiscriminate use of munitions had resulted in heavy casualties among Palestinian civilians and that this could have been avoided.

“The evidence of war crimes we have is so well documented and compelling that the British government should immediately cease all forms of military cooperation with Israel to avoid facing accusations of complicity,” the letter said.

The letter called for the suspension of all transfers of military technology and for RAF aircraft not to be used or leased from it to support the Israeli army.
