The largest joint Algerian-Russian military maneuvers in the Mediterranean launched

Algeria announced, on Wednesday, the launch of joint exercises with Russia, which will last 4 days in the Mediterranean.
The Algerian Ministry of Defense said in a statement: “Tuesday, a group of warships from the Russian fleet (the port wasn’t specified) docked in a four-day stop for the implementation of the joint naval maneuvers 2022.”
The joint exercise is taking place within the framework of strengthening bilateral military cooperation relations between the Navy of the Algerian National People’s Army and the Russian Navy.
The Algerian Ministry of Defense didn’t provide more details about the nature of these exercises, and the two countries organize joint exercises periodically.
Last September, a Russian minesweeper docked in the port of Jijel, eastern Algeria, to carry out joint exercises with the Algerian navy.
In November 2021, Russian and Algerian warships carried out maneuvers in the Mediterranean.
Algeria, according to observers, is one of Russia’s most important military allies in the African continent, and one of the largest customers of Russian arms in the region.
