The French President launches an unprecedented attack on the American administration

The French President Emmanuel Macron criticized, on Friday, the United States for its approach to setting gas prices, saying that it “follows double standards”.
Macron said, during a press conference after the European Union summit in Brussels: “There is a choice made by the US economy, and it is an attractive choice that I respect, but this choice creates a double standard where US energy prices are much cheaper than ours, because Washington is an energy producer, and they sell their gas at a price 3 to 4 times cheaper than what we sell”.
Macron also indicated that he would discuss this issue with the US government during his visit to the United States, scheduled for next December.
On the 15th of this month, French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire asked the United States to reduce the high prices of liquefied natural gas “LNG” in Europe, noting that “Paris is looking forward to obtaining liquefied natural gas cheaper than Washington gas”.
Le Maire warned, earlier, of “Washington’s attempt to impose economic hegemony by weakening Europe by taking advantage of the conflict in Ukraine,” saying that “it is unacceptable that the United States sells its liquefied natural gas four times what it sells to its industrialists”.
Also, German Economy Minister Robert Habeck, earlier, accused the United States of inflating gas prices.
He stressed that “the European Commission should discuss this issue with countries friendly to Germany, and the European Union should unify the internal market and regulate the reasonable purchasing behavior of member states”, commenting: “With this, the EU countries won’t individually raise gas prices in the global market”.
