The Pentagon announced on Saturday that two US soldiers and a civilian translator were killed during an operation against ISIS in Palmyra, Syria, and three others were wounded.

“The attack took place while the soldiers were working with an important commander< and their mission was to support the ongoing operations to combat ISIS and terrorism in the area,” he said.

In the same context, the US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, announced in a post on X that the perpetrator of the attack on the US force in Syria was killed by partner forces.

Earlier in the day, Syrian media reported that joint US-Syrian security forces came under fire near the Syrian city of Palmyra during a joint field tour, noting that members of the US and Syrian security forces were wounded.

The Syrian news agency SANA quoted a security source as saying: “Syrian security forces and US forces came under fire near the city of Palmyra during a joint field tour”.

The source continued: “The incident resulted in the injury of two members of the Syrian security forces and a number of members of the US forces, while the shooter was killed, without receiving additional information so far about the motives or circumstances of the incident”.

He pointed out that traffic on the Deir Ezzor-Damascus international road was temporarily halted against the background of the incident, in conjunction with intensive flying in the airspace of the area.
He explained that US helicopters intervened to evacuate the wounded to the al Tanf base after the shooting incident.
