Russian Foreign Minister: Europe is preparing for a major war against Russia
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday that the European continent is preparing for what he described as a major war against Russia, calling on the United States to avoid any steps that could lead to a further escalation in the Ukraine crisis.
In a press interview, Lavrov considered that Europe fails all efforts to de-escalate and rejects any direct contact with Moscow, while continuing to impose sanctions that reverses on it economically more than it affects Russia, adding that European countries are openly talking about their readiness for a new large-scale war on the continent.
The Russian Foreign Minister stressed that his country is ready to resume dialogue with Europe when what he described as the madness of Russophobia ends, the current situation cannot be described otherwise.
Lavrov touched on the US position, explaining that US President Donald Trump has always called for dialogue with Moscow and sought to understand Russia’s view on Ukraine, stressing that he has shown a clear commitment to finding a long-term peace settlement.
Lavrov added, “Moscow hopes that the voice of reason will prevail in Washington, and that the US administration will avoid taking any actions that could elevate the conflict to a more dangerous stage”.
The Russian foreign minister pointed out that Trump acknowledges that the expansion of NATO and the deployment of its military structure near the Russian border was one of the main reasons that prompted Moscow to take its steps in Ukraine, which Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly warned about over the past two decades.
Lavrov concluded by noting that European countries are determined to obstruct American efforts aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the crisis.
