Newsweek magazine published on the Strategy Behind Trump’s Security Guarantees to Qatar.

Qatar has entered “under a security umbrella that was previously the de facto exclusive domain of Europe, Japan, South Korea, and Israel,” after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order including Qatar “within the protection measures similar to those provided by NATO to its members”.

No Arab country had ever achieved such a status, as the timing of the executive order’s issuance, “which is extremely complex and highly charged, coming just days after an Israeli strike in the heart of Qatar, targeting Hamas leaders”.

This executive order appears to be a punishment for Israel and a reward for Qatar, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acted “irresponsibly, sidestepped Washington, and dealt a blow to an indispensable ally, Qatar”.

But this perception defies logic, except for those who are fooled by the idea that Israel could strike Qatar without prior notification to America, as the Israeli strike passed through airspace controlled by the United States due to its presence at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

Netanyahu would be so stupid as to launch such a strike without prior coordination with Washington.

However, there is only one other possible explanation, which is that “we are facing an extremely complex scenario in which each party plays a specific role and receives a specific reward: Israel strikes, then offers an equivocal apology, and then Qatar receives a reward in exchange for ending the war on the terms set by Israel”.

Whatever the truth of what happened, with this executive order, Qatar “jumped to the front line of US allies”.
