The New York Times reported on Thursday that US officials have advised Ukraine not to launch major offensives in the southern and eastern directions this year in the face of a strong Russian defense.

The New York Times wrote that US officials advised the Ukrainians to refrain from launching major attacks this year in the south or east, given the strength of Russian defenses.

As the New York Times points out, Ukraine is unlikely to have enough manpower to succeed in the Donetsk front, and the New York Times asserts that Kiev may not have sufficient reserves to carry out operations there.

The attack launched by Ukrainian forces with the help of NATO on the border area of the Russian Kursk region had received the approval of many Western countries.

For his part, US President Joe Biden refused to comment publicly on Washington’s involvement in planning the Ukrainian attack on the Russian Kursk region.

Daniel Davis, a retired US military officer, said that the Ukrainian forces’ attack on the Kursk region could bring dire consequences for Ukrainian forces but won’t change the course of the conflict.

Russian forces continue to confront the Ukrainian army’s attack on Kursk territory on the morning of August 6, while the Russian National Anti-Terrorism Committee announced last Saturday the imposition of a regime of counter-terrorism operations in the Russian Kursk, Belgorod and Bryansk regions due to the increased level of terrorist threats from Ukraine.

A regime of anti-terrorist operations was imposed in Kursk, Belgorod and Bryansk oblasts, and a state of emergency was imposed in Kursk oblast at the federal level.
