Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stressed on Friday the need to move forward with the negotiating process regarding Iran’s nuclear program, considering diplomacy the only alternative to war.

This came in the context of a meeting with Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, Chief of General Staff Metin Gürak, and Intelligence Director Ibrahim Kalin.

Fidan explained that he discussed with Güler, Gürak, Kalin, and other officials the developments that began with the Israeli air strike on Iran and its potential repercussions.

Fidan pointed out that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been closely following developments from the outset and is being kept informed of the information.

He said that the relevant Turkish institutions are taking all necessary measures in line with President Erdoğan’s directives, based on potential scenarios that concern Türkiye.

He said, “We’ve been in close contact with many countries, such as Iran, Iraq, Jordan, and the United States, since the beginning of the developments, adding, “Israel, which has caused a humanitarian tragedy in Gaza, plunged Lebanon into instability, sought to occupy Syria, and today targeted Iran, must abandon its strategy of destabilizing the region as soon as possible”.

Fidan continued, “We must not allow the growing tension in our region to distract attention from the genocide being committed in Gaza”.

Fidan stressed that progressing with the process initiated by US President Donald Trump regarding nuclear negotiations is the only way to resolve the conflict stemming from the nuclear dispute.

Fidan concluded his by emphasizing that diplomacy is the only alternative to war.
