Hezbollah officially announces: Hassan Nasrallah was killed in the Israeli bombing of the southern suburbs of Beirut
Hezbollah confirmed in a statement on Saturday that its Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs, after Israel confirmed his assassination earlier.
In an official statement, Hezbollah said,”His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary-General of Hezbollah, joined his great and immortal martyred comrades, whose path he led for nearly thirty years”.
On this regard, Hamas considered Nasrallah’s assassination a cowardly terrorist act, as the Iraqi Shiite leader Muqtada al Sadr said in his eulogy, “You lived proudly and died proudly as a martyr”.
On Friday evening, a devastating Israeli airstrike targeted “Hezbollah’s central headquarters” in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
On Saturday, army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani announced on X, “Hassan Nasrallah was killed”.
Before the party confirmed the assassination of its leader, a source close to Hezbollah, who preferred to remain anonymous, reported that contact with Nasrallah has been lost since Friday.
After Israel announced the killing of Nasrallah, who had been the party’s secretary-general since 1992, Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi vowed to reach out to anyone who threatens Israel, stressing, “We haven’t exhausted all the means at our disposal… The message is simple: Anyone who threatens the citizens of Israel, we will know how to reach them”.
Hundreds of families fled the southern suburbs overnight amid the airstrikes, after the Israeli army issued evacuation warnings to residents of some neighborhoods.
For his part, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei condemned Israel’s policy on Saturday, considering it short-sighted after it announced the killing of Hezbollah’s Secretary-General.
Khamenei said in a statement, “The massacre of the defenseless people in Lebanon has once again exposed to everyone the ferocity of the rabid Zionist dog, and has proven the short-sighted and stupid policy of the usurping entity”.
In Tehran, the municipality raised banners with a smiling picture of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and the words “Hezbollah is alive”.
The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon “Hezbollah”, was established in 1982.
