Heritage Foundation: The weakness of the US Army
The Pentagon is struggling to keep US military forces equipped against potential threats from China and Russia, according to a new report on US military power.
The conservative Heritage Foundation, in its annual Index of US Military Strength, said that “years of under-funding and poorly prioritization have resulted in the US military becoming weak relative to the force needed to defend national interests on the world stage”.
The report stated that “the current US military power is at great risk of being unable to meet the requirements of one major regional conflict, and the force may not be able to do more and is certainly not equipped to deal with two simultaneous conflicts”.
According to the report, “the possibility of fighting on two fronts has increased, with the continuation of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, and the increasing ferocity of China in the Pacific,” adding that, “Overall, the military position of the United States can only be classified as weak”.
