The German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has called for other important political tasks not to be neglected despite the ongoing war in Ukraine.

During the opening of the German-Spanish Forum, Steinmeier said in Berlin, on Tuesday, that “Russia’s war on Ukraine has changed the political agenda, but there are other political tasks that are still urgent”.

Steinmeier explained that among these tasks is the transition to a sustainable and digital future, stressing that this transformation “has become more difficult and more difficult, but it is still necessary, and for this we need a creative economy and science that looks forward to the new and a culture open to exchange, and we need in the first place people who have Willingness to invest ideas and capabilities.

Steinmeier inaugurated the forum, accompanied by King Felipe VI of Spain, who opened the forum on the second day of his official visit to Germany.

The Spanish monarch said that the Russian war on Ukraine shook some certain assumptions that one believed he could rely on, “but every challenge comes with an opportunity, as the current crisis can be a catalyst for accelerating the pace towards a sustainable economy based on renewable energies, energy rationalization and improved efficiency energy,” noting that Spanish companies have a lot to contribute in all these areas.

Felipe VI and his wife Queen Letizia, accompanied by Steinmeier, will fly to Frankfurt, where the German President and the Spanish King will open the Frankfurt International Book Fair.
