FBI raids Trump’s home in Florida

Former US President Donald Trump said that FBI agents raided his residence in the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

Trump described the raid as “a misconduct of the attorney general”.

“These are tough times for our nation, as my beautiful home at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida is currently under siege, raid and occupation by a large group of FBI men,” Trump said in a statement posted on his social media platform, “Truth”.

“This is misconduct by the attorney general, a weaponized use of the justice system, and an attack by far-left Democrats who are desperately trying not to run for president in 2024,” Trump added.

The FBI has yet to confirm whether the search was conducted or specify its purpose, but Trump is the focus of a large number of open judicial investigations.

The Department of Justice is investigating the January 6 storming of Congress by his supporters, an incident that is also under investigation by a House committee.

Attorney General Merrick Garland has yet to point the finger at anyone, but recently said, “We must hold everyone criminally responsible for trying to overturn a legitimate election to account,” stressing that “no one is above the law”.

Another investigation deals with Trump’s transfer of at least 15 boxes of government documents to his Florida residence after he lost the 2020 presidential election.

In Georgia, an investigation is underway to try to nullify the results of the 2020 elections, while in New York there is an investigation into the trade practices of the Trump Organization.

Trump has yet to officially announce his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election, although he has hinted strongly over the past few months.

With President Joe Biden’s approval rating dropping to less than 40 percent and Democrats expected to lose their hegemony in the House of Representatives after the November midterm elections, Trump is optimistic that he can ride the Republican wave to reach the White House again in 2024.
