US President Donald Trump said he would work to end the horrific atrocities in Sudan, at the request of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who concluded a visit to the United States, during which he announced that his country wants to move toward normalizing relations with the Israeli occupation, and pledged to raise Saudi Arabia’s investments in the United States to $1 trillion.

During his participation in a US-Saudi business forum, Trump explained that Sudan wasn’t among the issues he intends to engage in, adding that the situation in the country is chaotic and out of control.

He added that the United States will work with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and other partners in the Middle East to end these atrocities, while at the same time stabilizing Sudan.

Trump later wrote on Truth Social that he would use the power of the presidency to immediately stop the war in Sudan.

Trump described Sudan as “a great civilization and culture, but unfortunately it has deteriorated” and can be repaired with the help of rich regional powers.

Reacting to Trump’s announcement, Sudanese army commander Abdel Fattah al Burhan affirmed his readiness to cooperate with the United States and Saudi Arabia to achieve peace.

In a statement, the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, which al Burhan chairs, expressed the Sudanese government’s readiness to engage seriously with the US and Saudi parties in order to achieve peace.

Washington has urged both sides of the conflict in Sudan to conclude a ceasefire agreement, and Massad Boulos, the senior adviser to US President Donald Trump for Arab and African affairs, said about a week ago that the war in Sudan is considered “the biggest humanitarian crisis in the world”.

The war in Sudan between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) broke out in April 2023, leaving tens of thousands dead and displacing some 12 million people.
