Cavusoglu: Türkiye supports the unity of Syria’s soil and should not be allowed to be divided

The Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu affirmed that his country supports the territorial integrity of Syria, pointing out that it should not be allowed to be divided.
In a meeting with civil society organizations and businessmen in the province of Hatay in southern Türkiye, bordering the Syrian border, Mevlut Cavusoglu referred to “the ongoing tragedy in Syria for years, as well as similar events in Libya and Iraq,” stressing that “Türkiye is doing its best to Ensure that these tragedies don’t deepen, and prevent other countries from falling into this situation”.
Mevlut Cavusoglu considered that “were it not for the support provided by Türkiye to Libya, especially in repelling the attack on the capital, Tripoli, today it would be similar to the situation in Syria,” continuing: “But today we are signing agreements to define maritime jurisdiction areas with Libya, and we have signed an agreement in the field of hydrocarbons”.
The Turkish Foreign Minister stressed “the need not to allow Syria to turn into a den of terrorism directed against Türkiye, and not to allow its division,” noting that “Türkiye is aware of the support provided (from the West) to the PKK organization (the Kurdistan Workers’ Party) and its arms” Y BG and BYD in Syria, and that the aim of this support is to ensure that the organization continues its separatist agenda in northeastern Syria, in order to divide this country.
Cavusoglu also stressed the need to find a political solution to the Syrian issue: “The regime and the opposition must reach an agreement on a constitution and a road map that includes an electoral process in accordance with a UN Security Council resolution”.
And the Turkish foreign minister added: “There are those who are disturbed by this proposal… Tell us if there is another solution… Do you accept that this civil war continues for another 50 years? ”
Mevlut Cavusoglu continued: “For the continuation and integrity of Syria, the moderate opposition and the regime must reach an agreement on a road map, excluding terrorists… This is the only way to establish unity and cohesion in Syria, and only in this way can we return the Syrians to their country safely, with Including the Syrians in Türkiye who want to return”.
He stressed that “the start of the transitional process in Syria will also be an important step on the level of reconciliation”.
And he added, “We’ll provide the necessary support to hold fair and transparent elections in Syria under the auspices of the United Nations… The Constitutional Committee hasn’t achieved any results after 9 rounds… We’ll continue to work with the guarantor countries to achieve a result in the upcoming rounds, and I discussed this issue with my Russian and Iranian counterparts in New York last month”.
