Bernie Sanders: Weapons that enable Israel to commit atrocities in Gaza shouldn’t be provided

US Senator Bernie Sanders said in a statement early Wednesday that its time for Congress to stop funding Israel’s illegal and horrific war against the Palestinian people.
Sanders added, “We cannot continue to support a government that has blocked humanitarian aid and caused massive famine in Gaza,” emphasizing that the United States shouldn’t support a government that starves children in Gaza.
Sanders stated that the United States shouldn’t provide more weapons that enable Israel to commit these atrocities, decrying that “American taxpayers are spending tens of billions of dollars supporting Netanyahu’s racist, extremist government”.
In this context, several members of the US Congress, in a joint statement a few days ago, expressed their concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, noting that approximately 700 civilians have been killed while attempting to obtain food aid, amid the tightened blockade imposed by Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.
The representatives called on the Trump administration to exert serious pressure on the Israeli occupation government to reach a ceasefire agreement, warning that expanding military operations seriously threatens humanitarian relief efforts.
The statement also considered the continuation of the war in Gaza without a clear political plan for the aftermath to be a grave mistake that doesn’t even serve Israeli national security, stressing the need for urgent international intervention to end the worsening humanitarian tragedy.
