After the US base attack incident… Jordan reveals the mission of the targeted US forces
Jordan condemned the attack that targeted a military site on its border with Syria, and led to the death of 3 US soldiers and the injury of dozens of them.
The Jordanian News Agency (Petra) said that, “The Kingdom condemns the terrorist attack that targeted an advanced position on the border with Syria, and led to the killing of 3 US soldiers and the wounding of other US forces”.
The Jordanian News Agency specified the mission of these forces, saying that they “cooperate with Jordan in confronting the threat of terrorism and securing the borders”.
There are 2,900 US soldiers in military bases in Jordan, according to the Pentagon.
Minister of Government Communications and spokesman for the Jordanian government, Muhannad al Mubaidin, stated, “The terrorist attack didn’t lead to any casualties among the ranks of the Jordanian Armed Forces”.
Mubaideen stressed that “Jordan will continue to confront the threat of terrorism and the smuggling of drugs and weapons across the Syrian border into Jordan, and will confront with all firmness and power all who attempt to attack the security of the Kingdom”.
Jordan had previously announced that its cooperating with its partners to secure the borders, and has asked the United States and other friendly countries to provide it with the military systems and equipment necessary to increase the capabilities to secure the borders and confront the dangers across them.
The attack, which was announced on Sunday, occurred with a drone on a base in northeastern Jordan, according to Washington, and US President Joe Biden held Iranian-backed factions responsible and vowed to respond.
But Jordan later confirmed that the attack took place at the al Tanf base outside the Kingdom’s borders, noting that this base is located in Syria on the borders with Jordan and Iraq.
