Austria is preparing to try the dissident Syrian Brigadier General Khaled al Halabi on charges of committing war crimes.

After the Israeli Mossad smuggled him from Syria to obtain political asylum in Austria.

Reports didn’t specify the date of the trial, saying only that it will be soon.

The indictment consists of 80 pages, accusing the former Syrian officer of committing the violations.

It isn’t yet known if the charges included matters related to his role in the violations committed by the opposition factions during their control of Raqqa, mass executions and torture of abductees.

Halabi was one of the heads of the security branches in Raqqa in 2013, when armed opposition factions took control of the Syrian province.

Sources close to the Syrian government accuse him of facilitating the entry of these factions into Raqqa and cooperating with them until they established their control, which didn’t last long before the city was handed over to ISIS.

The former head of the State Security Branch left Raqqa for Türkiye after his contribution to the faction’s control over it and settled there until 2014, when he traveled to France.

The New Yorker reported in a report last year that al Halabi is collaborating with the Israel.

The Israeli Mossad and the French intelligence have participated in al Halabi story since its inception.

While the Austrian Kurier website says that the Israeli Mossad showed great interest in transferring al Halabi to Austria, after France worked to open an investigation into his past after he applied for asylum there.

When he arrived in Austria, the Israeli Mossad placed him in a luxurious house, paid all his living costs, and pressured the Austrian authorities to accept his asylum application.

However, the International Commission for Justice and Responsibility, accused the Austrian government of having secured protection for al Halabi, who is accused of sexual violence, torture and crimes against humanity.

The Austrian government was informed of this so that an investigation into his story was decided.
