Yedioth Ahronoth: The prowess of Qassam fighters surprises our forces in the Zeitoun neighborhood
Israeli Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported some details of the clashes and confrontations that took place over the past few days between resistance fighters and occupation forces in the Zeitoun neighborhood, southeast of Gaza City.
The Israeli newspaper revealed that fighters from the Qassam Brigades, the military wing Hamas, targeted the deputy commander of an armored brigade in the al Zeitoun neighborhood a few days ago, wounding him.
The Qassam Brigades fighters had also attacked an Israeli armored brigade force in the Zeitoun neighborhood a few days earlier.
According to Yedioth Ahronoth, an Israeli military source didn’t disclose the casualties sustained by the Israeli force, amid Israeli estimates that the military operation in the neighborhood could end within two weeks.
However, Yedioth Ahronoth quoted other military sources as confirming that Hamas fighters in the Zeitoun neighborhood are constantly attacking temporary Israeli army positions.
It also quoted military sources as saying that Israeli forces in the Zeitoun neighborhood were surprised by the skill of Hamas fighters in planting explosive devices, which contributed to the success of their ongoing operations against the forces advancing into the neighborhood in Gaza City.
Military sources quoted by Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Israeli soldiers discovered a tunnel running beneath their positions, confirming that Hamas fighters had successfully repaired and reactivated it in recent months.
This indicates the movement’s ability to rebuild and restore some of its military capabilities despite intense airstrikes.
As clashes and resistance operations continue in the Zeitoun neighborhood, Yedioth Ahronoth quoted military sources as saying that the Armored Brigade estimates that the operation in the Zeitoun neighborhood will be completed within two weeks.
Despite the Israeli incursion into large areas of Gaza, the occupation has so far failed to halt the resistance’s operations against its forces and military positions inside the Strip, as well as the occasional rocket attack targeting Israeli cities and towns.
