The Wall Street Journal, citing Syrian sources, reported that Syrian transitional President Ahmed al Sharaa is seeking a meeting with former US President Donald Trump in an attempt to present his vision for rebuilding Syria, similar to the Marshall Plan that helped rebuild Europe after World War II.

Acording to WSJ, al Sharaa’s plan favors cooperation with US and Western companies over partnerships with China, a move aimed at strengthening strategic relations with the United States.

According to the report, al Sharaa delivered a message to the White House expressing his desire to meet with Trump on the sidelines of his upcoming visit to the Gulf states, in an attempt to open a new chapter in cooperation between Washington and Damascus.

The US National Security Council commented on this move by emphasizing that the actions of the Syrian Interim Government will be a decisive factor in determining the future of US support and the possibility of easing sanctions imposed on Syria.

The report also revealed that the United States presented al Sharaa with a list of conditions that must be met before considering any step toward lifting sanctions.

Meanwhile, al Sharaa embarked on a quiet diplomatic campaign aimed at gaining Washington’s support, including arresting foreign militants and indirectly communicating with Israel through intermediaries.

In this context, Jonathan Bass, an US businessman and Republican activist close to Trump, recently visited Damascus to present an energy partnership plan.

This plan includes establishing a new Syrian national oil company listed on US markets, with Western companies involved in developing Syria’s energy sector.

Meanwhile, al Sharaa confirmed in a press conference held Wednesday in Paris with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, that his country is engaged in indirect negotiations with Israel aimed at easing tensions and limiting military violations.

He added that Damascus is making efforts, in coordination with international parties, to deter repeated attacks on Syrian territory.
