Trump authorized intelligence to carry out operation in Venezuela
US media reports says that President Donald Trump has given the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) authorization to conduct a covert military operation in Venezuela.
Trump had agreed to additional measures to prepare for a possible military operation in Venezuela.
According to reports the informal talks with the Caracas government, which Trump hinted at last Sunday, took place with the approval of the US president himself.
The talks included references from Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro that his resignation could be submitted.
Maduro agreed during the said informal talks to allow US energy companies access to his country’s oil resources.
On Sunday, US President Donald Trump hinted that there are some talks between his country and Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Asked on Friday whether he had decided to launch a military operation against Venezuela, Trump said: “I can’t tell you that, but there are some ideas on this”.
This comes amid reports in the US press that senior military officials have presented Trump with updated military options to deal with Venezuela, including military intervention.
