The water level of the Euphrates has decreased by 5 meters for the first time in its history

The director of dams in northern and eastern Syria said, the water level of the Euphrates River has decreased for the first time in its history by about 5 meters and 20 cm.

Mohamed Tarboush, director of dams in northern and eastern Syria, added that the incoming of the Euphrates River, according to the international agreements signed between Syria, Turkey and Iraq, amounts to 200 cubic meters per second, out of 500 cubic meters per second.

Tarboush explained that there are more than three million people at least who are at risk of food security because of the halting of irrigation, which is expected to stop with more water levels, as well as drinking water, as at least three million people depend on the Euphrates water for drinking, distributed among the cities of Ain al Arab, Manbij, Raqqa and Deir al Zour and the countryside scattered around these cities and along the river.
