The Rafah crossing opens in both directions and tight restrictions on travelers
The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said on Monday that the Rafah crossing has been reopened to individuals in both directions, in accordance with the agreed arrangements, as 150 people will leave the Gaza Strip daily, in exchange for allowing 50 people from Egypt to enter the Gaza Strip.
The crossing will be operated by the European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) team, within an international mechanism and in coordination with the Egyptian side, and the crossing will operate six hours a day, from 09:00 am to 15:00 pm, local time.
On Sunday, the Israeli army announced the completion of the establishment of a screening and inspection corridor for those coming from Egypt through the Rafah crossing to the Gaza Strip, after a successful experiment.
During the trial, procedural instructions were provided to the Palestinians and to the European Union personnel operating the crossing.
The Rafah crossing was closed throughout Israel’s war of extermination on the Gaza Strip, exacerbating hunger, blockade and slow death for Palestinians.
In the ceasefire agreement, a formula was reached that would require the handing over of the Palestinian resistance to all Israeli hostages in exchange for the second phase, which would guarantee the withdrawal of the occupying forces from the Gaza Strip and the opening of the Rafah crossing.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army continues its violations of the ceasefire agreement on its 115th day, in various areas of the Gaza Strip.
During the past 24 hours, the Israeli violations led to the martyrdom of three citizens, one in Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip, and the second in the vicinity of the Gaza Valley, while the Civil Defense forces recovered the body of the third from under the rubble of the Sheikh Radwan police station, which was bombed on the first afternoon of Saturday.
The Israeli army continues blowing up residential buildings in the areas of its deployment in Rafah and Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, while firing intensively in the center of the city of Khan Younis, east of al Bureij refugee camp, and the areas in the central Gaza Strip.
The tents of the displaced people on the Old Gaza Street, east of Jabaliya, in the northern Gaza Strip, were also subjected to direct fire from the occupation, while Israeli drones were flying along the eastern border, in parallel with their flying in the airspace of Gaza City.
The total number of people who arrived in Gaza hospitals during the past 24 hours reached 26 killed and 68 wounded.
Since the ceasefire in October last year, the total number of Palestinian civilian casualties has reached 523, in addition to 1443 wounded, while the bodies of 715 who were previously killed have been recovered.
These figures raised the number of Palestinian civilian casualties since the beginning of the war in Gaza, in October 2023, reached 71,795 and 171,551 wounded.
