The European Union announces that it does not recognize the results of the presidential elections in Syria
The European Union’s High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said that the European Union does not recognize the results of the Syrian presidential elections.
Borrell’s statement came on the heels of a meeting he held, on Thursday, with European Union foreign ministers.
Borrell said on Wednesday that the European Union believes that the presidential elections in Syria do not meet the criteria for democratic voting.
He added that he believed that such elections “do not help in settling the conflict there”.
It is noteworthy that the Supreme Judicial Committee for Elections in Syria announced that no legal breach was recorded, with the closing of the ballot boxes in the presidential elections and the start of counting the votes.
