The European Council announced that it has adopted legal measures lifting economic restrictions imposed on Syria, except those based on security reasons.

The EU Council stated on its website that 24 entities have been removed from the European Union’s list of entities subject to a freeze on assets and economic resources.

These entities include banks, including the Central Bank of Syria, and companies operating in key sectors vital to the Syrian economy, such as oil production and refining, cotton, and telecommunications, and others include media outlets and television channels.

In parallel, the lists of individuals and entities associated with the former Assad regime were extended until June 1, 2026.

The EU Council noted that this adoption formalizes the political resolution announced on May 20, which aims to support the Syrian people in reuniting and building a new, inclusive, pluralistic, and peaceful Syria.

The EU added two individuals and three entities to its sanctions lists, due to what it described as serious violations they committed against civilians on the Syrian coast last March.

The punished were Hussein al Jassim (Abu Amsha), Saif Bulad (Abu Bakr), the Suleiman Shah Division, the Hamza Division, and the Sultan Murad Division, both are current new Syrian army divisions commanders in Hama and Aleppo.
