New York Times reported that a possible Israeli operation in the Gaza Strip could lead to the heaviest street fighting since World War II.

The New York Times quoted experts say that Israel’s forces may face some of the most violent street fighting since World War II.

According to the New York Times, Gaza is witnessing intense preparations, and with Hamas deeply entrenched, it’s a particularly complex battlefield.

Concerned about the challenges ahead, the Biden administration has sent senior military officers to advise the Israelis, based on their own experiences in Iraq, while pressuring Israel to delay the ground operation.

Israeli officials also indicated that they expect the fighting in the Strip to continue for months, if not years.

Their American colleagues, in turn, fear that the conflict will spread to Lebanon and Iran, and that it will also lead to new attacks on US forces in Iraq.

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that his country has one main mission is to crush Hamas.

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority quoted Netanyahu, during his inspection of the “Emmanuel” military base, as saying that the next step for the Israeli army is to crush Hamas, as it’s one mission that remains for its military forces in the Gaza Strip.

The escalation between the Palestinian Hamas movement and the Israeli forces continues after Hamas launched, at dawn on Saturday, October 7, operation al Aqsa Flood, in which thousands of rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel, and its forces stormed Israeli settlements adjacent to the Gaza Strip, and captured a large number of Palestinians.

Israeli military personnel and civilians, while Israel responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, threatening Hamas to pay a heavy price for its attack.
