The Israeli Maariv newspaper published a report, in which it addressed Israeli interventions in Syria, pointing to the state of ambiguity and confusion surrounding Israeli policy towards this complex issue.

According to the report, the recent Israeli army operations inside Syrian territory reflect the absence of a clear strategy, which led to operational mistakes that characterize the end of the war on more than one front, amid growing questions about Israel’s real goals.

The Israeli newspaper asked a series of fundamental questions, most notably: What does Israel want in Syria? Where is Damascus headed? Is US President Trump aware of the truth of what is happening there? It also warned of new Turkish trends that could reshape an ISIS-like scene but with government administration.

The Israeli government ignores any diplomatic track, leaving the army to act alone by building unnecessary outposts and sending reserve battalions to carry out arrests as if in Nablus, which Maariv newspaper described it in the report as “strategic folly” resulting from the euphoria of power.

Maariv also stressed that Israel is preventing the Syrian army from deploying near its borders, ignoring Syrian sovereignty, at a time when it needs a security agreement with Damascus that returns responsibility to the Syrian army under US supervision, in a way that ensures the balance of power with Türkiye and Saudi Arabia and prevents terrorism in the future.

The report also pointed out that the Israeli behavior serves the Turkish narrative that accuses Israel of occupation and violation of the sovereignty of neighboring countries, pointing out that the current war of attrition may worsen over time, turning into a political bleeding that serves Netanyahu’s authority by postponing his trials and building an electoral security narrative.

This is a very dangerous drip war for Israel, as it undermines the achievements of the previous war, weakens the military and budget, and leaves Israel with what remains of its regional and international legitimacy.
