German Chancellor Friedrich Merz confirmed that his country supports the development of long-range missiles manufactured in Ukraine without imposing range restrictions, as part of escalating military support for Kyiv in the face of ongoing Russian attacks.

This came in statements made by Merz on Wednesday, ahead of his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Chancellery in Berlin, where he said, “We’re financing Ukrainian-made long-range missiles with no range limits”.

Merz added that Germany’s military support also comes within the framework of opening a path for negotiations, while emphasizing the continuation of European pressure on Moscow.

“We’ll continue to increase pressure on Russia… The intensive airstrikes on Kyiv aren’t a language of peace, but rather a language of intimidation and aggression”.

The German Chancellor noted that US support is indispensable at this critical juncture, stressing Europe’s full readiness to support Ukraine’s technological and military capabilities.

Merz received Zelensky, Wednesday with an official ceremony at the Chancellery, where the two leaders reviewed a military honor guard.

The German government stated that the visit focuses on supporting Ukraine and efforts to achieve a ceasefire, in light of the recent military escalation in the country’s east.
