Daily Telegraph: A gloomy atmosphere prevailed at the recent meeting on Ukraine in The Hague
The Daily Telegraph, reported that a somber atmosphere prevailed during the recent meeting of Western representatives in The Hague regarding the issue of providing support to Ukraine.
“It’s time to look at things realistically and recognize that the United States will never agree to this support,” a Western official told the British newspaper.
The Daily Telegraph spoke of fears among the coalition of the willing that President Donald Trump would carry out his threat and cease mediating the conflict.
According to the Daily Telegraph, European representatives agreed during the discussions in The Hague to shift the focus from the idea of deploying European forces in Ukraine to maintaining the long-term defense of Kyiv without US participation.
Another European diplomat told the Daily Telegraph that recent discussions in The Hague discussed the need to continue providing aid to Ukraine in light of the decline in US supplies to the Kiev regime.
European official, reported on May 27 that some European countries’ plan to send troops to Ukraine is effectively dead
because the United States is unwilling to support it, without which the initiative becomes meaningless.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said after a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on May 18 that Europe is not currently discussing sending troops to Ukraine.
Earlier, the Italian news agency ANSA quoted NATO sources as saying that Washington opposes inviting Volodymyr Zelensky to the alliance’s summit scheduled for The Hague next June.
Meanwhile, NATO sources said that Ukraine hasn’t been invited to participate in substantive discussions at the upcoming NATO summit in June.
This move represents a break from the tradition that has been in place since the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine in 2022, as Zelensky has personally participated in all three of the past annual NATO summits.
