Axios: 46 US Senate Democratic members call on Trump to prevent Israel from annexing the West Bank
46 Democratic members of the US Senate urged President Donald Trump to prevent Israel from annexing the occupied West Bank.
This came in a letter sent to Trump by members of the House of Representatives, led by Senators Adam Schiff and Chuck Schumer, according to what was reported by Axios website.
Democrats hold 47 of the 100 seats in the Senate, and Democratic Senator John Fetterman was the only one who didn’t sign the letter.
In the letter, Democrats asked Trump to strengthen his position against Israel’s annexation of parts of the occupied West Bank.
They believed that Trump’s confirmation of his position rejecting the annexation process, coinciding with the ceasefire in Gaza, would be appropriate and timely.
The ceasefire between Hamas and Israel went into effect on October 10, based on the Trump plan.
Democrats also called on President Trump to take steps to support and encourage a two-state solution.
Last July, the Israeli Knesset overwhelmingly approved a declaration supporting the annexation of the West Bank to Israeli sovereignty, amid calls from Likud ministers and Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana for the annexation to be implemented immediately.
