The US military has fired Vice Admiral Fred Kacher, as director of the US Joint Staff, just two months after he took office last December.

Joint Chiefs of Staff spokesman Joseph Holstead confirmed the news of the dismissal, explaining that Kacher would return to service in the US Navy, but declined to disclose the reasons behind the abrupt decision.

According to official source, Vice Admiral Fred Kacher, “wasn’t the right person for the job!”

The dismissal takes on significance from Kacher’s own position, as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is the chief of staff’s right-hand man, providing him with primary support, and overseeing combat commands around the world.

This position is usually an important step toward high-level promotions in the military.

Prior to this position, Kacher was a veteran surface warfare officer who commanded the US Seventh Fleet in Japan, commanded the US Naval Academy, and commanded the missile destroyer USS. Stockdale.

He holds a master’s degree from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

What makes this dismissal all the more striking is its very sensitive timing.

The decision comes at a time when the US military is preparing to significantly strengthen its military presence in the region, in preparation for the possibility of launching strikes against Iran, if ordered by President Donald Trump.

The dismissal coincided with fateful talks in Geneva between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear program, negotiations that the administration considers crucial to avoid a slide into full-blown military conflict.

In his recent speech to Congress, Trump indicated his preference for a diplomatic solution with Iran, but at the same time stressed that “Tehran shouldn’t be allowed to have a nuclear weapon under any circumstances”.
