Three British retail electricity companies announced on Tuesday, the suspension of work, bringing the total number of companies that have stopped working since last August due to the rise in natural gas and electricity prices to 18 companies that used to serve more than two million homes.

The Bloomberg news agency indicated that the three new companies that collapsed are Omni Energy, M Power UK and Zebra Power, together serving 21.4 thousand homes.

The Blue Green Energy Services Ltd., which serves 5,900 homes, announced that it would cease operations yesterday.

For his part, Britain’s electricity regulator, Ofgem, said in a statement, “In recent weeks, there has been an unprecedented increase in global gas prices, which puts financial pressures on electricity selling companies”.

The collapse of the new companies came on the heels of a warning from British Business Minister Kwasi Quarting that more electricity companies in the country would collapse due to high prices.

The British electricity supplier Omni Energy had informed the British energy regulator Ofgem of its intention to stop its activity and asked it to appoint a new company to supply its customers with electricity.

Last month, the energy regulator announced its intention to set up a fund to provide emergency credits to customers who are unable to pay their bills after wholesale prices soared to record levels.
