Yedioth Ahronoth: The night of the Iranian attack was a farce for Israel

The Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper confirmed on Monday that the night of the Iranian response to the targeting of the consulate in Damascus was a strategic farce for Israel.

Yedioth Ahronoth spoke of a strategic failure suffered by Israel after the Iranian response, due to the fact that Israel was enslaved for two weeks, as a result of paralyzing tension, after its attempt to assassinate (this is an indication of the anticipation and anxiety that prevailed while waiting for the response, after the threats Since the beginning of this month).

Yedioth Ahronoth doubted whether the Israelis could say, “Why was an assassination carried out that could lead to a confrontation a million times more complex than it’s in the north and south, while the story there is also far from over?”

Yedioth Ahronoth asked sarcastically, “How are the leaders, who have already approved several times plans to invade Rafah, which hasn’t yet happened, supposed to threaten Tehran?”

Yedioth Ahronoth answered, “the answer is another classic Israeli answer,” which is: “Wrong, they are wrong, we made a mistake”.

Yedioth Ahronoth also pointed out that the intelligence assessment was that Iran wouldn’t change its method of operation if the Israeli army assassinated a person in Damascus, on sovereign territory for Tehran.

In reference to Israeli miscalculation, Yedioth Ahronoth saw that Israeli officials forgot that Israel no longer appears as a threat, that it has an untrustworthy government, and that its army has made mistakes more than once, and doesn’t know how to recover from that.

In addition, Yedioth Ahronoth wondered whether conducting the operation was urgent, given that Israel was about to learn closely about the ring of fire that was established around it.

Yedioth Ahronoth continued, “Once again, it has been proven that Israel doesn’t like to think differently, when it comes to dramatic steps on the part of the enemy”.

In this context, back to the battle in 2021, in which Israel believed that Hamas wouldn’t target Jerusalem and risk an all-out battle, and to October 7, when it believed that Hamas would be deterred.

Likewise, the assassination of the Iranian commanders, in targeting the Iranian consulate in Damascus, was based, wrongly, on Iranian hesitation, which turned into a historic attack.
