Yedioth Ahronoth: Hamas ambushes Israeli soldiers with Hebrew-speaking dolls
Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported on Friday that Hamas used children’s dolls speaking in Hebrew in an attempt to lure Israeli soldiers into ambushes in the Gaza war.
Hamas fighters placed some dolls for children and other times dolls for adults near tunnel openings.
These dolls speak in Hebrew and at times cry, and using loudspeakers, the speech reaches far outside the place, to make the Israeli soldiers believe that there are detainees in the place.
Of course, speaking in Hebrew and wailing will be attractive to the Israeli forces, which confirm that recovering detainees is the most prominent goal of the war.
The Israeli newspaper published a number of what it said were dolls and children’s bags found by Israeli forces in Gaza, in addition to loudspeakers.
Yedioth Ahronoth quoted the Israeli army as saying that its soldiers uncovered Hamas’ trick during field surveys in the Gaza Strip, where they found a corridor leading to an underground tunnel network.
The second part of Hamas’ plan to lure soldiers was to place mines near the tunnel opening, to detonate it when the Israeli soldiers approached.
In the current war, which began 70 days ago, Hamas had already claimed responsibility for blowing up several tunnel openings in Israeli soldiers.
The son of the former Israeli Chief of Staff and currently a member at the war cabinet, Gadi Eisenkot, was killed in one of these operations several days ago in the northern Gaza Strip.
Israel believes that the tunnels are a strategic weapon of Hamas, which it uses to detain Israeli prisoners, and where the movement’s leaders are stationed.
