Washington is providing a huge military aid package to Ukraine to confront the Russians
The White House announced on Wednesday that the United States will soon send new military aid to Ukraine.
US presidential spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre said during a routine press conference that this new shipment will include ammunition for artillery systems used by the Ukrainian army, noting that the Pentagon will provide more details.
This new military aid package is worth $325 million and includes artillery shells.
The US Department of Defense said in a statement that the package also includes ammunition for the HIMARS precision missile system and anti-tank mines.
This announcement coincides with the delivery of Ukraine’s first US Patriot air defense systems and French AMX-10 light battle tanks.
“Our beautiful Ukrainian skies are safer today because Patriot air defense systems have arrived in Ukraine,” Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov wrote on Twitter, thanking the United States, Germany and the Netherlands for fulfilling their promises.
The United States is leading an international campaign to help Ukraine, after it quickly formed a coalition of dozens of countries to support Kiev since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022.
In addition to the Patriot systems, the West plans to supply tanks to Kiev to help it launch a counteroffensive in the coming months to recapture the territories it has occupied in the east and south.
For its part, Moscow has repeatedly denounced Washington’s interference, considering that NATO, led by the United States, is waging a proxy war against Russia in Ukraine.
