Wall Street Journal: Wagner Group may provide an air defense system to Hezbollah
The Wall Street Journal quoted US officials as saying that the United States has intelligence information indicating that the Russian Wagner Group may provide an air defense system to Lebanese Hezbollah.
The Wall Street Journal added that the system in question is the SA-22, a system that uses anti-aircraft missiles, along with air defense cannons to intercept aircraft.
The Wall Street Journal reported that a US official said that Washington had not confirmed sending the system, but was monitoring the discussions between Wagner and Hezbollah, highlighting that the supposed delivery of this system constitutes source of great concern.
The Wall Street Journal said that the United States deployed an aircraft carrier in the eastern Mediterranean to try to deter Hezbollah and prevent it from opening a northern front against Israel, explaining that the Wagner company has a presence in Syria, where Hezbollah fighters are also present.
It’s believed that the Russian Intelligence is the one that funds the Wagner Group, and is its main supervisor.
These beliefs are confirmed by the presence of a Wagner base in the city of Molkino in southern Russia, next to a Russian military base.
