Türkiye: Normalization with Damascus is in ongoing process

Sources close to the new Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, reported that the file of normalization with Syria is a priority for the new staff of the head of the Turkish administration, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, especially with the approaching date of the meeting of the deputy foreign ministers of Syria, Russia, Iran and Türkiye in the Kazakh capital, Astana.

Sources close to the newly appointed Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan indicated that the normalization with Syrian is “on a hot plate” and it’s a priority in terms of a series of urgent needs of the Turkish state that were approved by a special security, political and diplomatic meeting held recently and chaired personally by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

According to data received from the new Turkish government, the relationship with Syria is being studied at the highest levels.

Strengthening relations is also on the table, not to negotiate issues by piece and cutting distances is fast with a strategic agreement that the Russian side compares to the prominent tactical bow that Saudi Arabia made or decided with Iran.

The Turkish National Security Council decided to grant Minister Hakan Fidan, and the head of the new Turkish intelligence service, Ibrahim Kalin, full authorization to manage the issue of the relations with Syria.

In the context, Turkish measures are legal, political and deep to solve any problems that can be resolved with neighboring Syria.

The Turkish-Syrian negotiations may be detailed, of a bilateral nature this time, under the direct supervision of the Russian channel and the insistence of the Kremlin in particular.

In light of the talk about a Russian desire that doesn’t stop at holding a summit meeting between Presidents Bashar al Assad and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which was agreed upon in Moscow in principle, and was postponed until after the second round of the Turkish presidential elections.

Currently, what is on the table is Moscow’s strong desire to establish quick, swift, tactical and strategic relations and great openness between the two countries.

Last Wednesday, Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Envoy of the Russian President for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, announced that a meeting of the deputy foreign ministers of Russia, Türkiye, Syria and Iran would be held in the Kazakh capital, Astana, on the 21st of June.

He pointed out that Russia’s draft road map for developing relations between Syria and Türkiye is ready.

Earlier, the Russian presidential spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said that his country will continue its efforts to assist the Syrian leadership in its full return to the Arab embrace.

In turn, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, considered that the resumption of Syria’s participation in the activities of the Arab League will contribute to calming the atmosphere in the Middle East and overcoming the repercussions of the Syrian crisis as soon as possible.

She indicated that Moscow was in constant contact with Arab capitals, and constantly called on them to resume relations with Damascus.

It’s noteworthy that the Arab League announced in early May, after an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers, that Syria would return to occupying Syria’s seat in the organization, after about 12 years of freezing its participation.
