Turkish President senior advisor reveals the outstanding topics that hinder the meeting between Erdogan and Assad
The senior advisor to the Turkish President, Akif Çagatay Kılıç announced that there are continuing meetings with the Syrian government at multiple levels, noting that there are pending issues that hinder access to meetings at the highest levels.
In a televised statement on Friday, Akif Çagatay Kılıç stressed the integrity and clarity of Türkiye’s position on these issues, and that without resolving them, a meeting cannot be held between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar al Assad.
He also affirmed Türkiye’s respect for the territorial integrity of Syria and its rejection of any terrorist organization controlling these areas.
He pointed out that Türkiye had taken some measures to prevent terrorist organizations from controlling the region, in order to preserve its national security and the security of Syria.
Last month, Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler stressed the importance of drafting a new constitution for Syria and adopting it as an essential step towards achieving peace in the region.
The Turkish defense minister stressed that the Turkish army won’t withdraw from Syria except after guaranteeing the security of Türkiye’s borders and the safety of its people.
He expressed his hope that Syrian President would act more wisely in this context.
