Turkish Foreign Minister: The Syrian army cannot carry out the task of securing the borders now

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said that Damascus has some demands, such as the Turkish withdrawal from northern Syria, but we are facing the threat of terrorist organizations on our borders, and the army in Syria cannot now carry out the task of securing the borders.
He added in his statements, “If the Turkish forces withdraw, the one who will fill the vacuum is the Kurdish People’s Protection Units… We affirm that we have no ambitions in the Syrian lands, but there is a serious threat coming to us from there”.
He stressed that the course of normalizing relations with Syria will proceed according to the road map that was proposed during the quartet meeting of the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Russia, Syria and Iran in Moscow last Wednesday, and dealing with the conditions of Damascus will take place according to them, and the Syrian refugees must return in a safe and honorable way because their safety is very important, as he described it.
