The US Supreme Court unanimously overturned a Colorado court ruling barring Donald Trump from running in the Republican primary over his alleged involvement in the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

The Supreme Court’s decision comes in support of former US President Donald Trump, during his election campaign to return to the White House, which increases his chances of winning the elections.

The Colorado Court’s decision to exclude him from the competition is due to Trump’s involvement in incitement and support of the attack on the US Congress building (Capitol) on January 6, 2021.

The Supreme Court issued a decision preventing American states from excluding candidates for federal offices under a constitutional clause that includes rebellion, and thus overturned the Colorado judicial decision to exclude Trump from the competition.

In a 20-page ruling, the US Supreme Court justices said that only Congress can decide whether or not Trump is eligible to run, stressing that states may not unilaterally exclude Trump from the ballot, adding, “The Supreme Court’s ruling is overturned in Colorado”.

“The Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling cannot stand,” the court, which is made up of a majority of conservative justices, said in its decision; “All nine members of the court agree with this outcome”.

The decision came on the eve of “Super Tuesday,” the day when American voters in 15 states and territories vote in the primary elections in a ballot that is expected to consolidate Trump’s position as the candidate most likely to win the Republican Party’s nomination for the presidential elections scheduled for November.
