The UN Security Council countries demand Russia to withdraw from Ukraine
Countries in the UN Security Council confirmed that Russian attacks on Ukraine violate the United Nations Charter and called on Russia to withdraw from Ukrainian territory and end the war.
The Security Council held a session on Friday, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the start of the Russian attacks on Ukraine.
French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné said that only Russia wants war in Ukraine.
He added, “Russia could end the war now if it wanted to, but it prefers not to do so by not withdrawing its soldiers from Ukraine”.
In turn, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron attacked Russian President Vladimir Putin and accused him of invading a sovereign state at the United Nations, “without any legitimate reason or threat from Ukraine”.
He pointed out that Russia is providing “ridiculous” justifications for its war on Ukraine.
He added, “Putin once said that this is a war between brothers; What kind of ridiculous logic is this that has caused so much loss of life?”
“Is Russia fulfilling its responsibilities towards international peace and security as a permanent member of the UN Security Council?”
He continued, “How many other ridiculous reasons will they give to justify the occupation? You say that Ukraine poses an existential threat, and then you say that Ukraine does not exist in reality… Are you fighting NATO or the Nazis?”
He went on to say, “Only Putin’s regime behaves like the Nazis”.
In turn, the Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said, “Putin is trying to rewrite history with lies… In this way, he wants to break the resistance of the Ukrainian people and the international community,” she stressed, stressing that “this shouldn’t be allowed to happen”.
Greenfield stated that the international community should support Ukraine and said, “If Russia lays down its weapons today, the war in Ukraine will end”.
“There is only one aggressor in this war, and only one side can end the war”.
For his part, Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, said that the West continues to pump weapons to Ukraine and claimed that the Ukrainian government lacks independence and is corrupt.
He believed that the European Union was in the orbit of the United States, continuing its anti-Russian propaganda, and paying a very high financial price.
As for Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, he said that Russia’s name has become synonymous with aggression, war crimes and barbarism.
Kuliba pointed out that only through collective action can the aggressor be stopped and international peace and security restored.
