The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced targeting a spy center in the city of Erbil
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed responsibility for the ballistic missile attack that targeted the city of Erbil in northern Iraq, noting that it attacked “spy centers and gatherings of anti-Iranian armed groups” in the city, simultaneously with its bombing of areas in Syria.
In a statement, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard said, “We announce the targeting of the headquarters of spies and Iranian gatherings.
Anti-Iranian attacks attacked parts of the region in the middle of the night with a number of ballistic missiles, and the targets were destroyed, and details will be announced later.
The statement added that the bombing came in response to recent crimes committed by Iran’s enemies.
The Revolutionary Guard said that it targeted a Mossad headquarters in Erbil, noting that “the main Zionist center is a headquarters for developing and launching espionage operations and planning terrorist activities in the region, especially against Iran,” according to the statement.
The Iranian official media quoted the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as saying that ISIS was targeted in Syria in response to the terrorist attacks that the organization recently launched in Iran.
The statement confirmed that the Revolutionary Guards would continue their offensive operations until the last drop of blood is avenged.
For its part, the Kurdistan Regional Security Council said in a statement, “At 11:30 PM (local time) on January 15, 2024, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard launched several ballistic missiles at several areas in Erbil.
In addition to the missile attacks it launched in a residential area located northeast of the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, and near the US consulate, the Revolutionary Guard said that it launched a number of ballistic missiles into Syria and destroyed the perpetrators of terrorist operations in Iran, especially ISIS.
The US State Department condemned the attacks that occurred near Erbil, describing them as “reckless”.
According to US officials, no American facilities were targeted and that there were no American casualties.
Iraqi security and medical sources said that the prominent Kurdish businessman, Peshraw Dizayee, and a number of his family members were among those killed when at least one missile fell on their house.
Peshraw Dizayee, who is close to the ruling Barzani clan, owns companies that led major real estate projects in Kurdistan.
Iraqi security sources also said that a missile fell on the home of a senior Kurdish intelligence official, and another targeted a Kurdish intelligence center.
Iran has in the past carried out strikes in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq, saying the region is used as a launching point for Iranian separatist groups as well as Israeli agents.
