The Independent Online: Belarus is ready to go to war with Russia

The Independent Online posted a report by Chris Stevenson, entitled “Belarus is ready to go to war with Russia in Ukraine, if his country is attacked”.
Stevenson comments on the recent statements made by the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, during which he expressed his country’s readiness to wage war alongside Russia against Ukraine.
Lukashenko said, “I am ready to wage war on the side of the Russians, from the territory of Belarus, if only one soldier enters our territory from Ukraine, carrying weapons to kill our citizens”.
Stevenson explains that Russia used Belarus to help launch its first failed attack on Ukraine and its capital, Kiev, on several levels, including the military cooperation between the two countries, which has been steadily increasing over the past months.
The two countries conducted joint military exercises that included the air force, and ended with the formation of joint forces, which increases fears in Kiev that Belarus may be preparing to play a more active role in the ongoing conflict.
Stevenson notes that Lukashenko’s remarks come hours after Russia launched more than 30 missiles at Ukrainian territory, prompting citizens in several cities across the country to flee their homes.
On the lines of contact on the various fronts, Russia continues to mobilize more soldiers and artillery batteries, especially on the eastern front, in the Donbas region, which includes Donetsk and Lugansk, which is considered the industrial heart of Ukraine, and therefore Russia seeks with all force to control.
