The European Parliament Budget committee approves funds aid to Türkiye, Romania and Italy

The European Parliament’s Budget Committee approved providing assistance worth 400 million euros to support Türkiye in assistance for dealing with the consequences of the earthquake the hit the country last February.

The committee agreed, by a majority of 26 votes to one, for the European Commission to provide aid to Türkiye, Italy and Romania with a total value of 454.8 million Euros to confront the effects of disasters.

It’s expected that the aforementioned aid will be approved in the vote that will take place at the General Assembly meeting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on October 2-5.

On September 18, the aid was approved by the European Union Council, and the400  million Euros in aid will be allocated to Türkiye due to the double earthquake disaster that struck the south of the country on February 6.

On the other hand, Romania will receive 33.9 million Euros in aid to help Romania deal with consequences of the drought in which Romania suffered from in 2022, and the rest 20.9 million Euros will go to Italy, to help in deal with the floods that caused devastation in September last year.

The European aid will be covered by the section allocated from the European Union budget for solidarity and emergency aid, and the financial aid will be granted after final approval by the European Parliament.
