The Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, said that the resumption of US special operations programs in Ukraine means an overt participation of the US armed forces in the conflict.

Antonov told reporters on Friday night: “If the US leadership decides to resume the activities of the special operations forces on Ukrainian soil, it will represent an undisguised participation of the regular army in the current conflict”.

The Russian ambassador noted that “there is no official information on this issue the public involvement of the United States in the conflict, only an investigation by journalists, which relies on unnamed sources in the administration”.

The Washington Post reported of Friday that the US Department of Defense is preparing a proposal for Congress to resume funding for covert programs that allow US special operations forces to hire Ukrainian intelligence agents to monitor Russian military movements and combat disinformation.

The Russian ambassador pointed out that Washington continues to ignore the atrocities committed by the current Ukrainian leadership, and said: “The United States ignores another execution of Russian prisoners of war committed by the Ukrainian Nazis… The United States turns a blind eye to the daily bombing of the peaceful cities of Donbas, Zaporizhia and Kherson”.

He pointed out that “Washington covers up the actions of Ukrainian extremists and makes the United States de facto complicit in terrible crimes”.
