On Wednesday, Gallup published a new opinion poll stating that 55% of Americans oppose the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip, after they supported it last November.

This is the most recent opinion poll, conducted from March 1 to 20, which showed a decline in American public opinion’s support for the Israeli army’s operation in Gaza, and a change in its trends, as only 36% now support it.

It reveals that 74% of adults in the United States follow news of the situation in the Gaza Strip closely, a percentage similar to the 72% that Gallup measured in November.

The foundation also reported that the three major party groups in the United States were less supportive of Israel’s actions in Gaza than they were in November.

This includes an 18-percentage point decline in support among both Democrats and independents, and a 7-percentage point decline among Republicans.

Independents went from being divided in their opinions about Israeli military action to opposing it.

Democrats, who were already largely opposed in November, are even more opposed now, with their approval rating at 18% versus 75% of those opposed.

While Republicans still support the Israeli military efforts, the percentage decreased to 64%, from 71%.

Meanwhile, a new dispute broke out in Israeli circles, and positions differed with the US administration, after the UN Security Council adopted, on Monday, a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire during the holy month of Ramadan, respected by all parties, leading to a sustainable ceasefire, with the support of 14 members, the United States abstained from voting and used the Veto.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that it canceled the visit of an Israeli delegation to Washington, following the US’s abstention from voting on the resolution adopted by the UN Security Council.

The office described what happened as a clear retreat from the United States’ consistent position in the Security Council since the beginning of the war.
