Politico: The United States is concerned about attacks on its forces in the Middle East

Politico published a report on its website revealed that the Pentagon is concerned about the possibility of new attacks on US forces stationed in the Middle East from Iran and its affiliated forces, with the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in an already turbulent region, according to Pentagon officials.

US Defense Department officials are particularly concerned that groups allied with Iran in Iraq and Syria, or Iranian forces in the Gulf, could exploit instability in the region to attack US forces or partner forces operating in these countries, as they have done in the past.

Major Jeffrey Carmichael, spokesman for the US military operation to confront ISIS in Syria and Iraq, confirmed that US military forces in the Middle East are aware of the actors that may seek to benefit from conflicts and instability in the region.

Carmichael said that Washington won’t allow actors there to drag us into engagements that detract from our mission.

He didn’t mention Iran by name, but he sent a message saying, “Make no mistake, we reserve our inherent right to self-defense when we face threats that put our forces in harm’s way”.

According to Politico, Pentagon officials refused to determine whether any additional measures had been taken to protect American forces in Iraq and Syria.

In a related context, Hezbollah announced that sending US aircraft carriers to the region, with the aim of raising the morale of the Israeli army and its frustrated soldiers, reveals the weakness of the Zionist military machine, despite the crimes and massacres it is committing.

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the United States of inflaming the situation in the Middle East by sending the aircraft carrier to the Mediterranean Sea.

Putin wondered why they were sent, and said, “I don’t understand why Washington is sending aircraft carriers to the Mediterranean… Do they want to bomb Lebanon or scare anyone? There are people who no longer fear anything”.

Putin believed that the outbreak of violence between Israel and the Palestinians is a vivid example of the failure of American policy in the Middle East.

He said that Washington neglected the mechanisms in the Arab-Israeli conflict area, and relied on the material needs of the people in the Palestinian territories, noting that Russia’s position on Palestine and Israel is well known by all parties, as we defend the implementation of United Nations resolutions and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.

On Tuesday, the US President announced that he gave orders to send the aircraft carrier USS Gerald Ford, with the aim of supporting our naval presence in the region.
