The Russian authorities announced Monday that a Ukrainian sabotage group has entered the Belgorod region bordering Ukraine, noting that work is underway to eliminate it, in light of a series of attacks on Russian territory.
The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said, “A sabotage and reconnaissance group of the Ukrainian army entered the Grigoron region… The Russian Armed Forces, together with the border guards, the Rosgvardya (National Guard) and the Russian Federal Security Service are taking all necessary measures to eliminate the enemy”.
For his part, the Kremlin spokesman indicated that Russian President Vladimir Putin was informed of the continuous incursion into Russian territory by saboteurs from Ukraine, considering that the attack aimed to divert attention from the occupation of Bakhmut, which Moscow claimed.
“The Ministry of Defense, the Federal Security Service and the Border Guard have informed the president… Work is underway to expel this subversive group from Russian territory and eliminate it,” Dmitry Peskov told Russian news agencies.
“We fully understand that the aim of this act of sabotage is to divert attention from Bakhmut and to minimize the impact of the loss of the Ukrainian side,” he added.
Kiev confirms that it still controls some sites in Bakhmut, and it is attacking, especially, the Russian sites in the suburbs, with the aim of encircling the Russian forces in the city.
At least six people were injured Monday in explosions in the Russian region of Belgorod, which borders Ukraine, according to what the region’s governor announced on his Telegram account.
Vyacheslav Gladkov said that two people were wounded in the bombing of the village of Glutovo, three others in the Grivoron region and a sixth in the village of Zamost’e.
These villages are located near the Ukrainian border in the area where the Russian authorities announced an incursion by a Ukrainian sabotage group.
The governor confirmed that a shell fell on a children’s garden that caught fire in Zamost’e, injuring a woman in her hands.
In Grivorun, the district capital, the local administration was bombed and three houses were damaged.
According to the same source, the Russian anti-aircraft defenses shot down a drone.
The “Russian Freedom Corps” group, made up of Russians fighting on the side of Ukraine, claimed responsibility for the attack via Telegram.
This group had claimed incursions into this region and Russia classified it as terrorist.
