The Israeli Maariv newspaper reported that Egypt has explicitly threatened Israel with the possibility of canceling the Camp David peace accords if Israel doesn’t withdraw from the Rafah area adjacent to the Egyptian border.

According to Maariv, Egyptian officials submitted their demands to William Burns, the director of the CIA, during their visit to Cairo, demanding that the United States pressure Israel to stop military operations in Palestinian Rafah and return to effective negotiations.

If Israel doesn’t respond, Egypt could take measures such as freezing or terminating the Camp David peace accords.

Maariv newspaper pointed to the continued communication between Israeli and Egyptian officials to understand the seriousness of the Egyptian demands, especially after the escalation of media in Egypt on this matter.

Maariv confirmed that Egypt has made it clear to the United States that this threat comes within the framework of a strategy to pressure Israel, which means that the agreements remain in force and won’t be significantly affected.

Egypt asked aid truck drivers, for the first time since the beginning of the war in Gaza last October, to avoid the Rafah crossing area due to tighter security measures, reflecting its fear of escalating the security situation.

According to Egyptian offical, the Egyptian efforts contributed to the progress of ceasefire negotiations in Gaza, stressing Egypt’s commitment to protecting its national security during the negotiation process.
